Hiking in Ardennes-Eislek - Upper Sure Lake
25.09.2021 - 26.09.2021

Hiking weekend around the reservoir lake - in the footsteps of Carlo Hemmer*

During the eighth edition of our annual hike in the footsteps of Carlo Hemmer we will discover the diverse biosphere of the region around the Upper Sûre lake with Lultzhausen as the starting and departure point. Two day hikes are on the programme for the participants, divided into two groups (group at intermediate speed and a sporty group at high speed).

The first day tour leads the participants from the youth hostel in the direction of ‘pont Misère’ passing Insenborn, Burfelt und Kaundorf. We then return to Lultzhausen. This 28 km-long day hike is rather strenuous with its climbs. Nevertheless, it is worth the effort as the plant diversity of the Nature Park Upper Sûre and the landscapes of the Luxembourg Ardennes are just marvellous. After the hike, the participants will be enjoying a barbecue and stay overnight in a modern dormitory. On the second day, the participants will start well rested in the direction of Esch-sur-Sûre, a picturesque village with its castle hidden between mounds and surrounded by the Sûre river. This second stage is shorter than the first one – 20km in total await the hikers.

This year, the participants can take part in a yoga session by ‘Flow by Fran’ before and after the hike to stretch their muscles and be in good shape.

The places are limited, please register in advance.

As in previous years, the hiking weekend is organised by the Luxembourgish youth hostelling association in cooperation with the Carlo Hemmer* foundation.

* Carlo Hemmer (1913-1988) from Ettelbrück was an important economist from Luxembourg. Alongside his many professional endeavours both in and outside of Luxembourg, Hemmer had always been a strong supporter of the youth and therefore also of Luxembourg’s youth hostel network. Upon his passing, half of Hemmer’s wealth was donated to the ‘Fondation Lëtzebuerger Jugendherbergen’ founded in 1986 and later renamed to ‘Carlo Hemmer Foundation’. The aim of the foundation is to receive funds and manage the foundation’s assets in order to support youth hostels, social tourism, sporting events and educational activities – independent of political, social and religious aspects.

Price per person:

  • 63 € (price for members of the youth hostels)
  • 83 € (standard price for non-members*)

* Not a member yet? No problem! Contact us for information on how to get your membership card. Being a member allows you to save money for all activities organised by the youth hostels and much more!

Included in the price: guided tours (2 day hikes), 1 overnight stay in a dormitory at the youth hostel Lultzhausen, breakfast, 1 dinner and 2 lunch packs.
