A recent study visit to Luxembourg conducted in cooperation between the Polish and Luxembourgish Youth Hostelling Associations gave a group of middle school students from various schools in Poland the opportunity to visit the Grand Duchy.
Among others, the students visited our beautiful capital as well as popular tourist destinations Vianden and Echternach from October 23 - 28. Aside from the historical landmarks and picturesque landscapes, the students were offered a comprehensive animation package filled with group activities. These included a high ropes course, geocaching and climbing training on Youth Hostel Echternach's very own indoor climbing wall.
Lessons in history, geography and physical education aside, the trip embodied one of the key functions of youth hostels: To bring together young people from around the World and to facilitate encounters between different people from different backgrounds, regardless of gender, nationality, social class or religious affiliation. Our guests from Poland met with a group of local youths from the youth centre in Vianden who were eager to meet people from abroad. Together, they took part in various activities. It was an opportunity for new friendships and continued partnerships. Furthermore, the youths from Luxembourg and Poland got to practise their English and German language skills.
In a survey conducted after the trip, all participants praised the organisers and planned activities.
