Was man vorher schon wusste

„Dräsd’n“ wie es im Dresdener Dialekt heißt – 680 km von Luxemburg entfernt – liegt in der ehemaligen DDR, ist die Hauptstadt des Freistaates Sachsen und somit idealer Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge durch die berühmte sächsische Schweiz. 555.000 Einwohner leben im sogenannten Elbflorenz, wie Dresden auch genannt wird, ursprünglich vor allem wegen seiner Kunstsammlungen. Doch auch die barocke und mediterrane Architektur sowie ihre einzigartige Lage im Elbtal prägen das Florenz des Nordens. Und pssst, hören Sie mal genau hin, wenn die Einwohner unter sich reden! 110 years of hostelling – Still going strong

On the 26th of August, 1909, the German school teacher Richard Schirrmann and his pupils were hiking through the woods when they unexpectedly found themselves in the middle of a storm. They looked for shelter, but no one would accommodate them. At last, the school class and its teacher found shelter in a vacant school building. Richard Schirrmann came to a decision: to establish a network of hostels in order to provide shelter for young hikers and travelling groups, come what may.
