Why you should go
Braga is a city with over 2000 years of history, enabling you to explore well-preserved historical sites, monuments, and churches with architectural styles ranging from Roman to Baroque. Founded by the Romans in 16 B.C., the Roman ruins are still present in the city, allowing you to visit an old house, thermae, and a theatre. The Cathedral of Braga is also one of the monuments you must visit, including its inside museum.
Bom Jesus do Monte is a cultural landscape overlooking Braga and features a sacred mount with a church. It was considered a World Heritage site by UNESCO, and besides the church being its centrepiece, the famous Stairway of the Five Senses adorned with walls, steps, fountains, statues, and other ornate elements, is the standout Baroque feature on the property. Surrounded by lush woods and set on a rugged hill, a picturesque park adds to the overall landscape's aesthetic value.
Yet, Braga is also a young, cosmopolitan, and multicultural city, where shopping streets, cultural events, places to go out at night, and restaurants to try the typical gastronomy are very easy to find. So, whether you are interested in history, religion, culture, or just want to immerse in the vibrant atmosphere of a Portuguese city, Braga has something to offer.
