The European youth card — new chapter, new discounts, new partnerships
The European Youth Card is entering a new chapter — with new deals, new partnerships and new opportunities for young people. Behind this growth is our ongoing goal to make ‘Carte Jeunes’ so much more than just a money-saving tool. It’s about discovering new experiences, getting involved, learning new things and making the most of the opportunities available.
Good to know: all 12–30 year-olds with a ‘Carte Jeunes’ can also apply for a free Hostelling International membership card — and HI Luxembourg members can get a free ‘Carte Jeunes’ too!
New partners, new offers
We’re welcoming new partners and introducing more ways for you to use your European youth card.
One of our latest partnerships is with Follow Through, the organiser of the biggest basketball tournaments in Luxembourg.
Whether you prefer the 3×3 or 5×5 format, you and your team can enter the competition, compete for a place in the final, and showcase your talents! You can also meet us at events to find out more about using your card and getting discounts.
And this is only the beginning! We’ll continue to work on bringing new partners and opportunities to the card.

The European youth card offers so much more than just affordable leisure activities.
It provides young people with opportunities to meet new people, gain experience and develop skills, as well as contributing to society in Luxembourg and abroad.

Meet the new project manager – Charel Kirtz!
A new chapter also means that new people are involved in the project.
Since the youth hostel association Luxembourg took over the project, a team has been working to develop new ideas and create new opportunities for young people, all the while keeping the ‘Carte Jeunes’ initiative moving forward.
Charel Kirtz became the new project manager for the European youth card in July 2026. With a background in social media content creation and experience in strategic project development, Charel is joining youth hostels Luxembourg at an exciting time for the European youth card and its network of partners across Europe.
Charel’s goal is to contribute to a programme that supports young people and makes travel, culture, education and other opportunities more accessible.
I want young people to see the European youth card as a common tool for travelling and going out, and as a way of helping them transition into adult life.
Of course, it takes a team to make this happen. When the project first came to the attention of the Luxembourg youth hostel association, Peter Hengel (CEO), Martine Backendorf (head of marketing) and Gilles Stoffel (head of animation and educational programmes) stepped in to help keep the project alive.
‘Carte Jeunes’ is moving into its next chapter, and we want to build the future of the scheme together with you.
