Our Advice
for Water sports
-
When do I get my deposit back?
As soon as the rental period has ended and the equipment has been returned undamaged, the deposit will be released from your credit card. The money was never transferred to our account; it was simply temporarily blocked by our terminal. Therefore, there will be no transaction on your credit card unless the rented equipment has been damaged by you. If you paid the deposit in cash, you will of course receive it back in cash.
-
Will I get a refund in case of bad weather?
Yes and no. If the national meteorological service issues a warning for the Upper Sûre Lake region and the youth hostel cancels the activity for this reason, it is possible to postpone the booking to another date at no extra cost. Otherwise, only 50% of the cost will be refunded by bank transfer. If you have already started the activity and are caught in a thunderstorm or storm, unfortunately you will not be refunded. We only cancel the activity in the event of a storm or thunderstorm, as this is a safety issue. In the event of rain, the activity may still take place and does not constitute grounds for cancellation on our part.
-
What are the cancellation terms?
- In the event of a no-show or cancellation less than 2 days in advance, the price of the activity will not be refunded.
- If the cancellation is made less than a week in advance, 50% of the price of the activity will be refunded.
- If the cancellation is made less than 2 weeks in advance, 75% of the price of the activity will be refunded.
-
Can we bring our dog?
For safety reasons, it is unfortunately not permitted to bring dogs or any other animals. Thank you for your understanding.
-
Can my 16-year-old child practise SUP alone on the water?
Children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 must always be accompanied by at least one adult. Therefore, rental to minors without an accompanying adult is not permitted.
-
Can I hire a canoe as an adult with my child?
In theory, yes, but it is not recommended if you have no canoeing experience. Children under the age of 10 often do not have the strength to manoeuvre a canoe, which means that the entire load falls on the adult. Canoes are much more difficult to manoeuvre because of their size, and therefore much more difficult to manoeuvre with only one adult.
-
Can I hire a canoe for my family of four (two adults and two children)?
It depends on the size and age of your children.
- Example 1: a family consisting of two adults and two children aged 5 and 7. Unfortunately, it is not possible to rent a canoe, as two adults are required to supervise two children under the age of 7. As you have two children under the age of 7, four adults are required. The same applies to a family with one child aged 6 and another aged 9. In this case, a supervision ratio of 3 adults would be required. However, it is not possible to equip a canoe with three adults and two children.
- Example 2: a family with 2 adults and 2 children aged 8 and 9. Rental would be possible, with the children sitting in the middle of the canoe, but it may be too cramped if your children are tall.
-
Do you have to be a member or a guest to hire water sports equipment?
The rental service is, of course, available to all guests staying overnight at the youth hostel, but not only to them. If you simply want to try out the equipment, you do not need to be a member. However, if you wish to practise water sports on a regular basis, membership is recommended.
-
Is there a connection between the reservoir and the Sûre (i.e. from west to east, for example from Lultzhausen to Ettelbruck)?
No, approximately 400 metres east of the youth hostel in Lultzhausen is protection zone 1, which you are not permitted to enter without incurring heavy fines. Therefore, there is no waterway connection between Lultzhausen and Ettelbruck.
-
Are there any rapids or waterfalls that we should be aware of?
No, you will only be paddling on Upper Sûre Lake. It is a reservoir with calm, stagnant water.
