Youth hostels celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Schengen Treaty
4 June 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of a historic date, as it was on this day in 1985 that the Schengen Agreement was signed, laying the foundation for one of the most important projects of European integration: the abolition of internal border controls in Europe.

On our ‘De Kompass’ blog, you can find out more about our youth hostels in Luxembourg and the Hostelling International association worldwide. You can also read the latest news and inspiring travel tips, as well as discovering exciting culinary delights and gaining insights into local cultures and languages.
But why the name ‘De Kompass’? The former youth hostels’ member magazine had exactly the same name. When the printed edition was discontinued, we adopted it for our digital magazine.
