Where does our drinking water come from?
A visit to the SEBES (Syndicat des Eaux du Barrage d’Esch-sur-Sûre) facility in Eschdorf, which supplies drinking water to 90% of Luxembourg’s population, provides the answer. The 110,000 m3/day of water from the Esch-sur-Sûre reservoir that can be treated in the new plant undergoes a seven-stage treatment process, which is explained on site. At the end of the treatment process, the water meets the strict quality criteria for drinking water. It is distributed from the Eschdorf reservoir to the members of SEBES via a network of water pipes some 190 km long.
