You’ve never visited the three-country-border at the Moselle before and you’re looking for an affordable lodging? You should definitely stop in the municipality of Schengen at the picturesque wine-making village of Remerschen with its modern youth hostel.

Nowhere else is Europe as close as in Remerschen. After all, the romantic winemaking village located in the municipality of Schengen, which has been well-known throughout Europe since its agreements in 1985. Remerschen lies in the heart of the border triangle of Luxembourg, Germany and France, separated only by the Moselle river and offers therefore numerous excursions without borders. Nature lovers will get their money’s worth in the nature reserve ‘Haff Réimech’, children will have fun at the swimming ponds and adults are welcome to stop by the numerous winegrowers in order to discover the local wines. Activities and experiences will be on the programme during this holiday!

The youth hostel is located in the small village of Remerschen. Part of its rooms are situated in a modern newly built building and the other part can be found in a renovated former cloister, making them ideal for families, backpackers, groups but also solo travellers and school classes. The rooms are spacious and some even have their own balcony. After an exciting hiking or cycling tour, the family or group can relax whilst enjoying the wonderful view over the nature reserve.

In the in-house restaurant ‘Melting Pot’, the guests can enjoy delicious regional and seasonal dishes, the daily menu as well as special meals for children and vegetarians. So why not enjoy a cold beverage or and ice cream on the terrace? After the rest comes work. The fully-equipped conference room and the two meeting rooms are at the guest’s disposal for work sessions in one of the most beautiful regions of Luxembourg.

… by public transportation

You can reach Remerschen by car in 30 minutes from the capital city. The bus stop ‘Remerschen, Al Schoul’ is located near the youth hostel. Public transport is free all over Luxembourg.

…by bus or car

Coming from Belgium/Luxembourg/France:

Arriving from Brussels on the A4/E411, you pass by Namur and Arlon to get on the E25/A6 and cross the border. Arriving from Luxembourg, follow the A6 and A4 and continue on the A13/E29. Coming from Metz, continue on the A31/E25 in direction of Luxembourg/Trèves. Follow the A13/E29 in direction of Saarbrücken/Remich. Continue on the motorway and take the exit 13 Schengen/Remich. Turn left onto the N10 in direction of Remich/Schwebsange/Remerschen. At the roundabout, take the second exit and continue on the CR125/Route du vin until you arrive at the youth hostel, on your right-hand side.

Coming from Germany/Trier:

Arriving from Trier, continue in direction of Luxembourg/Saarbrücken/Konz. Continue on the B49 in direction of Saarbrücken and follow the B51. You pass through Konz and continue on the B419 until you arrive at Perl. Here you take the roundabout and continue on the B407 in direction of Luxembourg/Schengen until you pass the border. Continue on the N10 through Schengen until you arrive at the roundabout near Remerschen. Take the second exit and follow the Route du vin until you arrive at the youth hostel, on your right-hand side opposite the large winery.

… by bicycle

The commune of Schengen is ideally linked to the national and international network of cycle paths. The youth hostel Remerschen is located 500 m from the national cycle path PC3 des Trois Rivières, leading along the Moselle from Schengen to Remerschen and continuing to Remich, Grevenmacher, Wasserbillig and Echternach. The PC3 is linked in Schengen to the French cycle path coming from Thionville and Metz. On the German side of the Moselle, the Moselle cycle path leads from Schengen to Trier. The Saar cycle route leads to Saarbrücken. Coming from Luxembourg-city, continue on the PC1 du Centre until Hesperange. Follow the VeloRoute Saar-Lor-Lux until Remich and take the PC3 to Remerschen.

We recommend the cycling maps ‘Luxembourg by cycle’ 1:50 000 by the ProVelo (www.provelo.lu). These maps are available at every youth hostel.

Parking

For cars:

There are no parking spaces at the youth hostel. You may park for free along the street in the village of Remerschen. Opposite the youth hostel lies a small field path which passes by a winery. Here you can park for free.

For buses:

There are no parking spaces for busses at the youth hostel. You’ll find a free car park above the winery ‘Les Domaines Vinsmoselle’ where buses may park.

Hiking and biking are two of the most popular leisure activities of the visitors of the Moselle region. Nothing is more beautiful than to stroll along the vineyards or to bike along the Moselle and to savour the clean air of one of the most beautiful regions of Luxembourg. Nature certainly plays an important role, but this region around Remerschen has more than one ace up the sleeve for its tourists but also its inhabitants, staying home for the holidays.

If you stay overnight at the youth hostel or hike through the vineyards and the nature reserve ‘Haff Réimech’ and you feel hungry, then the in-house restaurant ‘Melting Pot’ is the right spot for you. The kitchen team serves seasonal and local daily dishes as well as specialties ‘à la carte’. A hundred guests, tourists as well as local residents are welcome in the restaurant as well as on the terrace (80 places) with its view on the border triangle to have supper or dinner. Vegetarian menus as well as special dishes for children can also be found on the menu. Tourist groups may choose between the many offerings of the catering brochure.
