90 years of the Luxembourg youth hostel association: A jubilee of memories

The year 2024 marks an important chapter in the history of the Luxembourg Youth Hostel Association: for 90 years, we have been committed to community, nature and affordable travel. Our anniversary year offered a wealth of events that honoured our history and took a look at our past.

A milestone in sustainability: 90 trees for the future

In the spirit of environmental protection, we have launched an initiative to plant 90 trees in collaboration with ‘Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur'. This project is not only a tribute to the past decades, but also a legacy for future generations. Each tree symbolises our commitment to making a positive contribution to nature and society.

Unforgettable anniversary tours: 90 kilometres of pure nature

Our special offer for hikers and cyclists was the ‘90 years - 90 kilometres’ anniversary tours. A hike through the picturesque Mullerthal and a family-friendly cycling tour offered participants the opportunity to enjoy Luxembourg's nature to the full and experience community at the same time.

The return of a classic: 'De Kompass' is back

After a decade of digital communication, we have produced a special edition of 'De Kompass', our popular members' magazine. This issue not only accompanied our exhibition, but also brought back nostalgic memories and celebrated the tradition of the print medium. Thanks to Erik Mathias' design, the newspaper shines in new splendour. Interested parties can order their copy at info@youthhostels.lu.

Multimedia insights into our history

We have produced two videos to mark our anniversary:

• Child and youth care centres: A clip by Hype Sàrl documenting the important work of our childcare and youth facilities.
• Documentary film ‘Stories from 90 years’: A moving look back at the highlights and challenges of our history, filmed and edited by Cédric Weber.

Looking back: our photo exhibition

The highlight of our centenary celebrations was the opening of a photographic exhibition on 18 October, at which we welcomed HRH Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume as our guest of honour. The exhibition featured moving images and stories from 90 years. Special thanks go to 2CW Sàrl, Christof Weber and Reyhan Mutlu for the successful concept and design.
