Water sports: equipment rental in Lultzhausen

From the 1st of July until the 31st of August, the Lultzhausen youth hostel on the Upper Sûre lake offers canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddles for hire. From Wednesdays to Sundays at 10:00 or 14:00 you can hire a boat, which you have booked online in advance, and discover the beautiful nature of the Upper Sûre lake alone or with friends or family.

Survival by night – a night hike for families in Larochette

How do you build a shelter in the forest? Which plants are edible? How can I survive in nature? Dive into the wonderful world of bush craft and survival!

We invite you and the whole family on a journey through the night to discover the forest without any light. Food from nature, shelter building and fire are only three keywords for this special evening. You will explore the surroundings on an exciting night activity that will take you over hill and dale for about four kilometres. At the end, participants can look forward to a cosy get-together around the campfire, including baking stick bread and a tasty snack.

If you are not afraid of the dark and like to lend a hand, you should sign up for this exciting activity on Friday, 19th of August 2022 at the youth hostel in Larochette.

The number of participants is limited, so please register in advance.

The Schueberfouer is annually recurring festival celebrated since 1340. As the largest festival in Luxembourg and its surroundings, it’s a magnet for a people from all over greater region.

Sunrise Yoga-SUP workshop on the Upper Sûre lake

Inhale deeply and then exhale again! These are the basics of yoga - so far so good. To make it even more interesting, the poses of the downward facing dog, the warrior and the cobra are performed on a stand-up paddle. The animation team of the Lultzhausen youth hostel organize with this sporty workshop in cooperation with Sarah & John Yoga. But that's not all: to make the activity even more enjoyable, the course will take place at the crack of dawn on Saturday 27th of August 2022, to enjoy the sunrise.

This three-hour workshop, in English, is a short introduction to SUP with a hatha yoga session on the Upper Sûre lake. Before the yoga, the participants warm up with the SUP and try out the equipment. After a short SUP tour on the lake, the actual yoga class begins on the water. After the session, breakfast is enjoyed together at the youth hostel.

If you want to avoid arriving early on the day of the workshop, you can stay overnight at the youth hostel on Friday and enjoy the fantastic view with a delicious dinner and get in the mood for the next day.

Requirements:
The course is aimed at adults with previous knowledge of yoga and/or SUP.

Participants are required to be able to swim for at least 15 minutes and have no medical contraindications to practising water sports.

Time:
Saturday, the 27th of August at sunrise (you will be informed of the exact times when you register).

Climbing courses for children aged 5-12

In response to the great demand from climbing fans, the team of trainers at Echternach youth hostel organize once again the popular climbing courses for kids interested in sports - for beginners as well as advanced climbers - after the summer holidays. A new feature is that the courses will now be organized in trimesters and will take place from 22 September 2022 to 30 March 2023 - i.e. for a whole two trimesters. Those aged from 5 to 7 and from 8 to 12 can are welcome to discover the 14-metre-high indoor climbing wall of the youth hostel Echternach. The mini-koalas course takes place on Thursdays from 13 to 14 o’clock and from 14.15 to 15.15 o’clock. The course for the older children is from 15:30 to 17:00 o’clock.

The places are limited. Please register in advance.

Requirements:
The course is intended for children aged from 5 to 7 years as well as from 8 to 12 years. No prior experience in climbing is required.

Sessions:
2 trimesters: Thursdays from 13:00 to 14:00 (mini-koala), from 14:15 to 15:15 (mini-koala) and from 15:30 to 17:00 (8-12 years old one’s)

Attention: No courses will take place during Luxembourgish school holidays. The course will not take place during the 3rd trimester.

Price per child for a total of 2 trimesters:

Weekend hiking trip around Larochette - in the footsteps of Carlo Hemmer

Discovering the Luxembourg sandstone, exploring caves and rocks, walking through light-flooded valleys and along romantic little watercourses is exactly what you are looking for? These spectacular dream settings and much more can be discovered on the ninth edition of our annual hike in the footsteps of Carlo Hemmer. These beautiful landscapes are located in the Mullerthal Nature and Geopark also called Luxembourg's Little Switzerland.

Two daily stages between 20 and 25 km are on the programme – the perfect tour for experienced hikers. Refreshments and food are awaiting the participants in Larochette youth hostel. The kitchen team will prepare a delicious barbecue for the hikers. You will then spend the night in renovated double rooms. Please note that the double rooms do not have a private bathroom; showers and toilets are on the respective floors. Possibility for larger groups to stay overnight in a 5-bed bungalow.

As places are limited, please register in advance.

Once again this year, the hiking weekend is organised by the administrative headquarters of the Luxembourg Youth Hostels in cooperation with the Carlo Hemmer Foundation. But who was this Carlo Hemmer? You’ll find out more about him during our tour.

Requirements:
Good physical condition and hiking experience over longer distances are required.
Sturdy shoes are compulsory - preferably hiking boots or trail running shoes.
The tour is exclusively reserved for adults.

Guided day hike around Echternach with dinner

On Saturday, the 15th of October, the animation team of the youth hostels invites you to a day hike around the oldest town of the country - Echternach. On the programme: a guided tour of approx. 20 km with highlights such as the Aquatower, the mill of Consdorf, Scheidgen, the lake of Echternach and the beautiful rocky landscape of the. Start and finish of the tour is at the youth hostel.

The tour is suitable for experienced hikers who are used to walking longer distances at an average pace of 4 km per hour. After the hike, participants will be served a 3-course dinner in the ‘Melting Pot’ restaurant at the youth hostel.

Places are limited, so prior registration is compulsory.
